about
Having my first child born during the odd year 2020 made me a little concerned about what lies ahead for her. The song is about hoping she develops all that's needed to navigate through a world that seems less predictable. The music’s tension stems from its being written in the Hindu scale (Aeolian Dominant). It was mainly recorded in my home studio, but the drums are by UK-based percussionist Nick Schlesinger.
lyrics
When the wolves are slain, and the hills reclaimed.
We’ll lay down our swords, and our fallen mourn.
But we’ve not reached that moment, we’ve not reached that moment.
And we’ve got to breathe until it comes.
Little love, have you lungs enough?
Or were you born too late to be this tough?
There will come a night, your voices will harmonize
And your dissonance will resolve to seraphs’ chants
But this is not that evening. We’ve got to keep on breathing,
and compose until that peace becomes.
Little love, have you lungs enough?
Or were you born too late to be so tough?
To be so tough? To be so tough?
Somewhere down the road, our bodies will go cold.
They’ll return to dirt, and nourish well the Earth.
But we’ve not reached that moment, we’ve got to breathe, atone and,
And struggle till that hour comes.
Gentle love, have you lungs enough?
Or were you born too late to be this tough?
Little love. Are you rough enough?
Or were you born too late to be so tough?
I've always loved Nonotices work, this is a real powerful release, full of atmosphere, tension, weight and calm ambience. Impossible to pick favourite track. PadraigC
